Infected With Hepatitis? :: By Kristina
30/09/09
First of all let us have a clear idea of what is hepatitis. It’s a disease that causes inflammation of the liver. This infection can last a lifetime and may lead to scarring of the liver or even liver cancer.
A lot of factors, such as drugs, alcohol, unprotected sex, tattoos and body piercings, can lead to hepatitis. By the way, there are five types of hepatitis, namely hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Consequently, treatments for hepatitis depend on the type.
To be honest, my husband is infected with hepatitis C. Virtually a considerable number of people infected with hepatitis C hardly display any symptoms of hepatitis. However, many others are likely to develop headache, loss of appetite, mild fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, fatigue and nausea. Surprisingly enough, my husband displayed no signs at first, and therefore the symptoms remained vague for a few years. Recently he had a blood test which showed the existence of hepatitis.
Since hepatitis usually spreads through contact with infected blood, I have set apart our towels, razors and toothbrushes. Upon our doctor’s recommendation we use condoms for sexual intercourse.
There are successful ways to receive hepatitis c treatment. Doctors recommend to maintain a healthy diet, prevent dehydration, get an adequate bed rest and avoid alcoholic beverages.
The doctor prescribed my husband antiviral medications. He said antiviral medications were supposed to clear the virus from his body. However, antiviral medications caused depression, fatigue, fever and headache.
Recently a possible hepatitis c treatment has been found. This method’s essence lies in combining daily antiviral pills called ribavirin with once-a-week shot of Pegasys. It doesn’t produce side effects.
We’re both hoping that he’ll be cured very soon.
