Take Care Of Your Unborn Child :: By Rosa
30/10/09
Birth defect causes are a result of heredity, motherly illnesses and environmental influences. Approximately 70 percent of birth defects are not known.
For example, deafness, color blindness and extra digits on the hands or feet are hereditary. These kind of defects may not appear in every generation, but the gene is usually passed on.
If a pregnant woman catches roseola then the virus can infect the baby causing blindness, deafness, heart malformations, and mental retardation. During the early stages of pregnancy the risk of roseola infection on the baby is much greater.
It’s essential for pregnant women not to smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs. If a pregnant woman keeps using drugs such as cocaine, crack or heroin her baby can be born already addicted and can have some defects. When smoking your baby gets less oxygen which can cause slow growth.
The mother’s diet can also cause birth defects. Healthy food is very important for the fetus’s proper formation, as child’s nutrition is based on its mother’s. If a pregnant woman eat healthy food including vegetables and fresh fruits she will have a healthy baby. Vitamins are also very useful, but avoid taking too much Vitamin A as it can be toxic for the baby and can result in birth defects.
Think about your baby. Try to eat healthy food and walk frequently.
