Dealing With Stress :: By Heghine

Dealing With StressEvery day we are subject to physical, mental or emotional strain and discomfort–also known as stress. Though a temporary phenomenon, stress may have permanent negative effects on our health and cause damage to our overall well-being.

Depression, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, obsessive-compulsive or anxiety disorder, sexual dysfunction, ulcers and cancer are among the top health problems caused by stress. Stress may bring forth problems affecting your appearance as well (like obesity, hair loss, tooth problems or oral diseases).

Actually, it is impossible to prevent stress, but it is always possible to find some treatment for stress to help you get rid of it.

First off, you’ve got to change your “inner settings”–the way you look at things and react to outer stressors. Start with switching to a more positive attitude toward everything, even the things you are not happy with. Try to compromise with the situation and be conscious that all difficulties have a temporal nature.

You need to keep cool to be able to overcome problems in the best possible way. Here are some tips to consider:

  • Avoid isolation. Talk about your problem to feel better. Keeping everything locked inside will only make things worse.
  • Keep close to people giving you positive emotions. Exclude those that irritate you or make you feel uneasy.
  • Stay busy with something pleasant, something that will help you to relax and feel good.
  • Learn to manage your time to get everything done. Don’t forget to leave a little time for yourself to relax.
  • Depressive or aggressive music will do no good. Listen to melodies evoking positive emotions. Avoid music that will provoke memories–they may drive you into despair.
  • Avoid negative information and bad news.
  • Do physical exercises to reduce tension and make you feel much better.
  • No alcohol, cigarettes and drugs–they may give you a feeling of immediate relief, but this will last a short while and may result in an addiction. Avoid drinks with caffeine as well–they simulate your adrenal glands. Instead, consume natural drinks and green tea.

An important thing to remember is that there is no life without stress or a stress-free routine. A little stress is a kind of trigger to keep things going, and from time to time it is necessary to have a sudden, strong rush of adrenaline or emotions so that you remain in the crazy rhythm of life.

  1. You make some excellent points here. So often people want to jump for the quick fix in a pill.
Avoiding negativity and surrounding yourself with positive thoughts and people will go a long way towards relieving stress naturally.
I would point out that yes you should talk about your problems but don’t dwell on them and constantly complain about them. The more you focus on that negative energy the more you will create. You will attract more stress into your life.
