Liver Cancer And Its Consequences

Liver Cancer And Its ConsequencesAny cancer that begins in your liver is classified as liver cancer or hepatic cancer. Liver cancer is one of the most common types of cancer that are seen worldwide. In the past healthcare professionals did not see these types of cancer frequently in the United States but the number of cases have been rising in the last few years.

The causes of these types of cancer are not clear to healthcare professionals but the consequences are. Weight loss, severe upper abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin, yellowing of the eyes, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, general weakness, and abdominal swelling are just a few of the signs/ symptoms associated with liver cancer. As cancer spreads throughout the liver it becomes unable to complete its basic functions (breaking down of toxic chemicals and producing various bio-chemicals) this causes a buildup of toxic chemicals and worsening of symptoms. If this process is left undiagnosed and untreated by healthcare professionals it can lead to coma and death.

Another possible consequence of liver cancer is metastasis. Metastasis is the spread of the cancer from the liver to other organ systems. If not found in time and stopped this process can have devastating effects. The spread of cancer can cause symptoms associated with other organs system and impede their functions. This process can also have fatal outcomes. If left untreated liver cancer usually proves fatal within six to twenty months. The earlier proper treatment is initiated the less likely fatal outcomes are.
