Caring For The Elderly At Home :: By Rosa
30/09/09
Elderly people used to be traditionally taken care of by members of the family. Now many are taken to nursing homes. If your elderly parents need care and they don’t want to go to a nursing home or group home, it is not a problem.
There are a lot of agencies which provide home care for elderly, so a caregiver can be hired to help your parents at home.
A caregiver can help elderly patients to get up in the mornings, dress up, prepare meal, clean, bath, go for walks and simply provide emotional support and companionship.
When first turning to home care agencies, do some research. Some agencies do not provide the necessary amount of personal care and contact that patients need. And it’s important that no more than two caregivers stay with your parents. Your parent will grow to depend on the caregiver, so a staffing change may be unsettling.
Caregivers should be able to build strong friendships with elderly people and enjoy every moment spent together.
In any case family members are the best caregivers in the world, so try to take care of your own elderly parents or relatives. They need your care and emotional support.
