Causes Of Blindness

Causes Of BlindnessVision is one of the basic and essential human senses, the others being hearing, taste, smell and touch. Losing one of these senses is equivalent to losing a part of yourself. Living in the world of obscurity or being unable to see our reflection in the mirror is probably the worst thing that a person can experience.

When we are deprived of something the first question that comes to mind is “Why?” In this post you will get an answer to your question as it will touch upon some major causes of blindness.

Blindness or visual impairment is the loss of visual perception that can appear due to various factors. They all deprive us of our visual perception and replace light with darkness.

Cataracts are one of the main causes of vision loss. The production of clear images, the transition of light and its focus on retina is carried out with the help of the eye’s natural crystalline lens. Cataracts causes clouding on the eye from the inner side of the lens thus worsening our visual perception. It is like a veil that covers the eye making images look dizzy. The lens transmits light to the retina and the retina transmits signals to the brain. Cataract development mostly is a result of aging but may as well be hereditary or a consequence of various traumas. The loss of visual perception happens very slowly and gradually; that is why you may not notice the appearance of cataracts.

Glaucoma is one of the main causes of blindness that can strike anyone including babies. When fluid pressure rises it leaves its harmful effects on the eye’s optic nerve. This is how glaucoma appears. Glaucoma is the disorder of the optic nerve. It does not necessarily have symptoms or cause pain. It progresses slowly and its effects may be crucial.

The complications of diabetes affect the eyes. This process is a disease called diabetic retinopathy, which targets blood vessels of the retina, a delicate tissue that is located on the inner part of the eye and sends signals to the brain. Diabetic retinopathy damages the retina, thus leading to blindness. Those who suffer from diabetic retinopathy could have blurry, cloudy vision or blind spots.

Eyes are our guides so we must do everything possible to protect them.
