Keeping Your Eyes Healthy :: By Hermine
24/02/10
If your eyes are red or itchy, it’s quite possible that you are suffering from a condition that affects millions of Americans each year: eye allergies.
Because eye allergies are so common nowadays, people often pay no attention to them, taking them for granted.
Still, you should know that eye allergies can seriously affect your health if you don’t seek treatment. Among the serious problems you may have, if your eye allergy goes unnoticed, may include:
- Conjunctivitis: It’s when the white part of your eye is surrounded by a thin layer of membrane called conjunctiva. This condition is most likely to come into surface if you have allergies to dust, pollen or chemicals. You may trigger this problem if you wear contact lenses or in case you have some bacterial infections.
- Asthma: Though it may sound a bit strange to you, the fact is that eye allergies and asthma have a lot in common. If you have both asthma and allergy, you may have shortness of breath and wheezing problems. There are allergic treatments that can help you reduce your asthma symptoms.
So, in order not to have such severe problems, you’d better take care of your eyes, especially when allergy treatment is no tough task. You just need to avoid allergens that trigger your symptoms, keep windows closed, wear sunglasses when going out and many other simple things that can save your eyes.
