Green Tea: A Natural Remedy

Green Tea: A Natural RemedyA cup of green tea in the morning is the usual start of the day for many of us. It tastes good and is refreshing.

Tea drinking is not just a practice, but a culture. Moreover, it is an ancient culture born in China. First it was introduced to people as medicine, then it became a usual everyday drink. Asian cultures like Chinese, Japanese and Korean follow their own tea philosophy which is closely bound to their local religious practices.

All the species of tea are produced from the same Chinese tea plant called Camellia sinensis. The geographic region, the planting and harvesting season and the processing are the three main factors that make tea so different in taste and flavor.

In fact tea–and especially green tea–is one of the rare drinks that are pleasant and useful at the same time. Green tea is becoming more and more popular with people wanting to live a healthy lifestyle, and research is being actively pursued on its natural properties and qualities.

  • Green tea contains less caffeine than all the other species of tea. A cup of green tea contains from 8-30 mg of caffeine, while coffee contains 100-350 mg per cup. This makes green tea the best drink for relaxation.
  • Green tea is rich in antioxidants, so it helps to prevent heart diseases and cancers.
  • The polyphenols found in the leaves of green tea strengthen the immune system and also help to minimize the risk of cancer.
  • The systematic use of green tea improves metabolism and controls cholesterol levels, thus promoting some weight loss. Green tea, daily exercises and a good diet plan are the best way to deal with extra weight.
  • Green tea helps preserve bone density in women.
  • To help prevent periodontal and gum diseases rinse your mouth with green tea for 30 seconds–that should do the trick.

So a cup or two of this healthy drink on daily basis will be a good contribution to your well-being.
