Don’t Let The Headache Get You :: By Nane
30/03/10
I was having headaches almost every day. I was experiencing dull and unbearable pain in my head, forehead and neck periodically.
The pain was severe and I couldn’t stand it. Pain killers were not helping me anymore. So at last I decided to see my doctor. The examination showed that I suffer from the most common type of headaches–tension-type headaches.
What are the symptoms and causes of tension-type headaches?
Tension headaches are generally characterized by the pain in the head and the neck. You constantly feel some kind of pressure in the region of your head. Usually sufferers experience pain on both sides of the head at the same time. The pain that is associated with tension-type headaches is mild to moderate. You usually don’t feel sick, because the pain is not pulsating, but very often you can be sensitive to bright light or noise.
It’s not clear what causes tension headaches yet. It is said that anxiety and stress are the tension-type headache causes. Besides, if one of your family members suffers from chronic tension-type headaches, you are also likely to suffer from them. Lack of exercise and movemens are also causes for developing tension headaches.
Who gets tension-type headaches?
These type of headaches are very often called “stress headaches.” People who very often feel anxious, stressed and depressed are more likely to suffer from them. If you have sleep deprivation and don’t eat meals at regular times, then you are considered to be a potential tension-type headache sufferer.
What is the treatment for tension- type headaches?
One of the best ways for relieving the pain is relaxation. As you know music is the best form of relaxation. So, turn on your favorite music, sit in the armchair and imagine that you don’t experience any kind of pain in your head and neck. Imagine that you feel quite well and the pain will go away.
Very often people who suffer from tension headaches are advised to have hot or cold showers. It sometimes helps to relieve the pain. In order to decrease the pain you should get more sleep, so start changing your sleep habits.
There are many cases when relaxation techniques do not help. In such cases you are advised to take painkillers such as aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen. They relieve the pain in a few minutes.
Health is the most important thing that you have, so consult your doctor and treat the headaches that are constantly disturbing you.
