Massaging Your Own BodyMassage is one of the simplest ways of relaxing your whole body and even getting rid of headaches without any medication, no matter what the causes of headaches are.

Before beginning the massage you have to remember that the movements should be done from the sides to the center of your body, following the direction of the lymphatic vessels. For example, the massaging of arms should be done starting from the fingers and gradually moving up to the wrist and on to the shoulder. The movements on the neck should be done from your head down to the shoulders. But note that massaging areas where there are lymphatic knots is not allowed.

During massage all your muscles should be relaxed, so you have to get into the right position beforehand.

You would not be able to use all the tricks practiced by professionals, but here are five basic kinds of massage that you can do yourself.

1. Stroking. This should be done with an open palm and closed fingers. Try to cover as much area of your body as possible with a wrist. Move your hand slowly, rhythmically, in circling motions, so that you get a comfortable feeling of peace and calmness.

2. Grinding. This is mainly used while massaging large muscles. This should be done with the tips of four fingers, the whole thumb and the upper part of your wrist. The motions should be circular or longitudinal. The pressure depends on your own feeling. These movements can prevent your muscles from minor pain.

3. Squeezing. This is a type of stroking, but you should press stronger. It can be done with the help of both hands for more force by pressing.

4. Kneading. Grab the muscle with your whole fist, pull it a little bit and knead it. The muscle should be under the pressure not only of the fingers but also of the whole hand.

5. Patting. You should relax your arm from the shoulder and use your palm.

Start the massage of your body from your fingers (stroking and grinding), up to your shoulders (kneading and patting), then go down to your hips (kneading), stomach (stroking and grinding).

The best cure for any causes of headaches is the massage of the neck and head. Begin with the back of your head, then the back neck-muscles and the muscles between your neck and shoulders.

All the movements should be done from top downward with help of stroking and grinding, but only with the middle and fourth fingers.
