How And When Does Ear Infection Take Place?
One of the worst diseases that I have experienced in my life is ear infection, which would surely become a chronic disease if I hadn’t received proper medical care.
An ear infection is a disease that develops within your ear, but doesn’t pass to others. That is your ear doesn’t become infected because, for example, your classmate or a friend has an ear infection.
Ear infection is the result of germs like bacteria and viruses that get into your ears. A man’s ear consists of three parts – outer, middle and inner. The outer part is the visible one, the middle part is the eardrum, and the inner part is the nerve system. Ear infection usually affects the middle one.
How is your ear infected?
To understand this, I should first introduce to you what an Eustachian tube is. Eustachian tube is the space or passage between the middle ear and the throat, which keeps the germs out. But these tubes are not so developed among children, that is the reason why ear infection is mostly common among children.
Whenever you catch cold or allergies, these tubes weaken and the germs freely pass into your ears. And later on your ears become filled with pus, which causes the pain.
How does the doctor know that you have an ear infection?
There are special flashlights called otoscopes, with which the doctor can look into your ear. While looking he blows into it, and if the eardrum moves, then everything is all right, if it doesn’t, then your ear is infected.
The symptoms of ear infection involve ear pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, hearing loss, ringing and fullness in the ear. These can disappear when the patient is healthy, but when he or she catches flu or cold, the symptoms become active.
There is no definite statement of how ear infection can be prevented. But there are ways to lessen the infection probability – eating raw fruits and vegetables, breastfeeding, controlling allergies, keeping the nose clear, massaging the ear, avoiding cigarette smoke, keeping the ears warm.
If you have an infected ear the best productive and safest thing to do is to drop garlic juice hydrogen peroxide, olive oil, vegetable oil into the ear and put a warm compress. These are solutions that you can do at home when no doctor is available. However, immediately consult a doctor once you have a chance to.
