Causes Of Addictions :: By Hunter
19/01/10
Lately drug and alcohol abuse has become one of the most difficult social problems to solve.
They start when a person just tries a drug, because it’s interesting, or maybe because he has some problems he can’t deal with. After more “tries” he feels he can’t or doesn’t want to stop. He continues to spend much money on the drugs or alcohol, then begins to experience problems with his family and job. After all, he can end up losing both and completely ruining his life.
After you use a drug a couple of times or drink too much alcohol, some changes are made in your brain, and you begin to want drugs or drinking more and more. One day you will feel that you can’t stop even if you wanted to. You physically can’t stop.
But why do some people get addicted to drugs and drinking more easily than others? Let’s try to find out what factors play a role in getting addicted.
- Genetics. Some people have genetic predisposition to addictions. It’s hard for them to resist any substance abuse and they are under a big risk of becoming a drug addict. Such people usually have more than one addiction. And even if they get rid of one addiction in a drug treatment center, they can easily become addicted to something else.
- Difficulties in the family. Children who are growing up in “difficult families” are more likely to develop addictions when they grow older than kids from good families.
- Mental illnesses. People with mental illnesses and psychological problems are more likely to become drug addicted, than mentally healthy people.
- Environment. When a person sees that all the people around him uses drugs, he usually wants to do the same. If this person is a teenager, it turns out to be very difficult to give into peer pressure.
All types of addictions are diseases and they must be treated. If you feel you have a problem with drinking or drugs, don’t hesitate–turn to a drug or alcohol treatment center to get the necessary help. There are many drug and alcohol rehab centers nowadays, and if you search you’ll surely find the one that’s right for you.
