Your Drug Recovery Is Not Out Of Reach :: By Hermine
04/03/10
If you suffer from drug addiction, if you feel ashamed and helpless, if you think that you have already lived your good days, pull yourself together.
People recover from drug addiction and alcoholism every single day. Nowadays there are many drug rehab centers that offer their help. They have very good programs and they work very effectively.
Still, rehab cannot help you if you won’t make the decision to stop. The greater part of your drug recovery really depends on you. Don’t think that if you visit some expensive drug rehab center, your problems will be momentarily solved.
The following is a list of actions required of you:
- Admit that you have an illness and accept help: it’s your first step to recovery.
- Don’t tell too many people about the problem you have. They may not understand you properly, and their comments may make you feel even worse. Share your problem only with those you love and trust. With their help and assistance, you can move mountains.
- Try to be as frank with your doctor as possible. Tell him every single detail: what drugs you were using, for how long, with what frequency and so on.
- Don’t isolate yourself from society. Get together frequently with friends and keep busy with sports or leisure. On the other hand, try to break relationships with your addicted friends.
- Never underestimate yourself. Drug addiction is not an insurmountable problem. Always keep in mind that you are much stronger than your illness.
Remember that your path to recovery is not going to be smooth. There will surely be obstacles to overcome and temptations to resist, requiring patience and will. You can’t have a full recovery within a short period of time.
So, don’t postpone your recovery. Accept the support of your family and friends and live a better life that has been waiting for you for a long time.
