Signs Of Drug Addiction

Signs Of Drug AddictionAccording to statistics, about 28 percent of American teenagers say there is at least one person who suffers from drug addiction in their circle of friends. And 17 percent have more than one drug-addicted friend.

According to the same statistics, the main cause of 25 percent of deaths in the US is drug abuse. Today this percentage is three times higher than it was in 1992.

Drug addiction is more common among young people who are the core of any society: most of the people affected with this addiction are usually 18-29 years old. They spend all their money on drugs, they begin to experience problems with their studies or jobs as well as with their beloved ones and relationships, they give birth to unhealthy children and they become rude and violent. Then problems with health and the law come. Addicted people ruin their lives without realizing what they do.

There are several warning signs that can indicate whether a person is addicted to drugs.

First of all, pay attention to the appearance of the person you’re concerned about. Has this person’s appearance changed lately? If he (or she) stopped looking after himself, began to dress differently and was unwashed and unshaved for a long time, these can be reasons to think this person has a problem. And maybe this problem is connected with drugs.

Some physical signs can also point to drug addiction. Have the eating habits of the person changed? Maybe he has/she suddenly gained or lost weight? Did this person lose interest in everything and become listless? Or maybe he/she has become too hyper or too lazy? Did he/she begin to express lots of strange emotions or no emotions at all? Did his/her sleeping habits also change? Does he always look and feel tired, not being able to sleep well and to wake up in the mornings? If the answers to most of these questions is yes, there is cause for concern.

It is thought that the eyes of a person can tell a lot. This is also true about the addicts. If a person’s eyes seem pale and lifeless, if their stare has become blank and meaningless and if their eyes are red with dilated pupils, these are signs of a possible drug problem.

There are even more signs that can point to a drug addiction. Drug-addicts usually become slow, dumb and inattentive, while their hands become shaky, cold and sweaty. The color of such a person’s face can also change, becoming strangely pale or flushed. The way of speaking can also become different: a drug addict starts speaking more slowly or too fast, usually slurring words. Also, pay attention to the suspected person’s arms and legs. Noticeable needle marks may not necessarily be left by medical injections.

Of course, if a person has all these symptoms or at least some of them, it doesn’t mean that he’s definitely a drug addict. But it’s very likely that he is. And he probably doesn’t even realize this. You see, most addicts don’t realize or don’t admit they have a problem, even if it’s obvious to others.

Drug addiction is a very serious condition that needs to be treated. If you think some of your friends or relatives have these symptoms, they should turn to a drug rehab center to get help. Drug rehabilitation isn’t an easy process, but professional help will return your friend to a normal life.
