Insomnia: Effects On Your Health :: By Hunter
08/02/10
Getting adequate sleep is one of the best guarantees of being mentally and physically healthy. And, obviously, lack of sleep can cause a number of disorders, affecting your health and worsening your emotional condition.
Let’s try to find out what exactly happens to our bodies when we suffer from insomnia or other sleep disorders.
- Weight problems. If you regularly get good sleep, your metabolism works well and this helps you to get rid of extra weight. If you don’t get the sleep your body needs, it affects your metabolism. Besides, lack of sleep increases your appetite. So, of course, if you don’t sleep, you start gaining weight.
- Lack of sleep. The inability to sleep also affects your memory, making it much worse. Your attentiveness, responses and reactions also slow down, so it becomes dangerous for you to drive a car and even to cross a street, since you may overlook something important.
- Emotional problems and depression. People who don’t get normal sleep regularly can face some emotional problems: they’ll lose their self-reliance, their self-esteem will become lower, and their performance at work or studies will also fall. They will also be prone to depression.
- General health. Lack of sleep will also affect your cardiovascular system’s performance and immune system. You’ll easily get tired and your body will be too fatigued to fight off diseases.
Of course, you won’t get all these “side effects” if you don’t sleep a night or two. But if you notice that lack of sleep is becoming something like a lifestyle for you, then it’s time to think about your health seriously.
Try to understand the cause of your insomnia, but don’t hurry to take sleeping pills! It’s always wiser to find some natural sleeping aids that will help you to fight your sleep disorders and return you to a cheerful, bright life.
